Essential Components for a Jumping Spider Enclosure

Opening Area

New to jumping spiders?! Here is a basic needs guide, including enclosure basics!

  • Bottom or Front opening enclosures are the best

  • If it is top opening, the lid needs to have enough depth to have a hide and won’t damage the jumping spiders hammock.

4”W x 4”D x 4”H

For slings - juveniles (or smaller species)

4”W x 4”D x 8”H or 6”W x 6”W x 9”H

For subadult - adult

Cross Ventilation

Cross ventilation is key! It needs to have enough air flow through the enclosure for your spider, while also being able to maintain humidity.

Make sure you have small enough holes so your jumping spider won’t escape.

Types of holes:

  • Drilled holes (either 1mm or 2mm)

  • 3D printed vents with small holes

  • Mesh screen vents (like no-see-um mesh)
